Applications for Huawei Seeds for the Future program are now open

Huawei has announced that applications for the 2024 edition of its “Seeds for the Future” program in Kenya are now open.

This initiative aims to cultivate local Information and Communication Technology (ICT) talent by offering participants exposure to cutting-edge technologies, promoting knowledge sharing, and igniting a passion for the tech field.

Seeds for the Future program has been a cornerstone of Huawei’s commitment to corporate social responsibility in the country for the past nine years

So far, over 240 Kenyan students have benefited from virtual training sessions, gaining valuable ICT knowledge and skills. For a select few (47), the program went beyond the virtual, offering an incredible opportunity to travel to Huawei’s headquarters in China. Where they were immersed themselves in Chinese culture while getting firsthand exposure to the latest advancements at the forefront of technology.

To be eligible, one needs a strong academic record (GPA of 3.0 or above or ranking in the top 30% of your faculty with a demonstrated interest in telecommunications and technological advancements.

It’s important to note that participation doesn’t guarantee future employment with Huawei. However, the program offers incredible benefits:

  • Gain Valuable Skills: Through virtual training sessions, you’ll gain in-depth knowledge about the latest ICT trends.
  • Network with Experts: Participate in discussions and learn from industry leaders.
  • Top Performers Rewarded: The top ten students will be invited for an exclusive mentorship experience at Huawei Africa’s headquarters in South Africa.

This joint initiative by Huawei and Kenya’s ICT Authority is a fantastic opportunity to jumpstart your career in the exciting world of technology. Generallly, this initiative selects promising young minds from around the world for short-term training programs, global competitions, and ongoing alumni activities focused on digital technologies.

Seeds for the Future” aims to bridge the gap between countries and cultures while nurturing the skills of future tech leaders. Participants gain exposure to cutting-edge advancements through seminars and discussions with industry experts. They also get hands-on experience, allowing them to put theory into practice.

The program embraces diversity and inclusivity as core values. They strive for at least a third of participants to be female students, promoting equal opportunities in the tech sector.
