Oppo Reno 11 Pro 5G Review; Awesome design and performance

Oppo launched the Reno 11 series in the Kenyan market last month, and it consists of Oppo Reno 11 Pro 5G and Reno 11 5G. The phone is the successor to the Reno10 series which was launched last year and consists of Oppo Reno 10 5G and Reno 10 Pro 5G.

We managed to get our hands on the Oppo Reno11 Pro 5G which we took out for a spin, and these are our thoughts.

Build

The Oppo Reno 11 Pro 5G measures 162.4 x 74.1 x 7.6 mm and weighs about 181 grams which I found it to be comfortable in the hand. It comes with a glass back that has a textured matte finish giving the phone a premium look.

The Oppo Reno 11 Pro comes with a 6.7 -inch AMOLED curved screen with very slim bezels giving the phone a screen-to-body ratio of approximately 93 per cent. It has a high definition 1080 x 2412 resolution, 20:9 aspect ratio which translates to 394 pixels per inch density. This coupled with a 120 Hertz variable refresh rate gives you a pretty sharp display.

The phone comes with 500 nits of typical brightness, 800 nits of maximum brightness and 950 nits of peak brightness. This means that one should be able to use the phone with ease even in bright light conditions. The screen is also HDR10+ certified which means that it can decode HDR10, HDR10+ and HLG, but not Dolby Vision.

The screen has Asahi Glass AGC DT-Star2 cover for protection so that means it won’t be breaking easily with minor falls. It has a screen protector out of the box, which will at least protect the device from scratches.

The selfie camera is located at the top of the screen with the top edge featuring a stereo speaker, microphone. The left edge does not have anything while the right edge features the volume up and down rocker and a power button. The bottom of the phone holds a sim tray that can house two nano-SIM cards, a microSD card expansion slot, a stereo speaker, Type C charging port and a microphone.

Performance

The phone is powered by a Mediatek Dimensity 8200, the chipset is built on a 4 nm process node technology and has a maximum CPU frequency of 3.1 GHz. For gaming, it uses the Mali-G610 MC6 GPU which is adequate for casual gaming.

It has 256GB of internal storage and 12 GB of RAM which is expandable virtually by 4GB by taking space from the storage.  I did not experience any lag while using the phone be it while streaming, switching between apps or even playing games like PUGB and Asphalt 9.

The Oppo Reno 11 Pro 5G runs on the Android 14 operating system straight out of the box and a ColorOS 14 interface. It also comes with some preinstalled apps like Booking.com, Facebook, Spotify among others. However, these can be disabled or uninstalled with ease.

One feature that I found to be interesting is the File Dock. This app facilitates quick access to images, text or files across various applications. It also supports the Smart Touch function which allows you to easily capture images and text that could not be selected before. Simply swipe down with three fingers for a screenshot.

Camera

Oppo Reno 11Pro 5G comes with a triple camera setup at the back, 50MP wide+ 32MP telephoto+ 8MP ultrawide and the 32MP selfie camera with HDR to create some visually appealing photographs which are sharp and detailed.

The 32MP telephoto camera ensures that your shots can still look good after cropping. After editing, the image quality looks as good as if you’ve captured the picture without zooming.

The phone comes with Night mode for those instances when you have low light conditions. There is a tripod mode within the Night mode that uses longer exposure for better results. Pro mode enables you to play around with settings like ISO, exposure, white balance, manual focus, and shutter speed for the perfect photo.

It also rocks other features such as Portrait, Panorama, Slow Motion, Time Lapse and Text Scanner ensuring that smartphone photography enthusiasts are spoilt for choice.  What’s more, the main and selfie camera can both shoot videos in 4K up to 30 frames per second.

Battery

The Oppo Reno 10 5G features a 4600 mAh non-removable battery supported by an 80 Watt flash charging power brick. This means that it can fully charge the device in just under 35 minutes which can be convenient on a busy day.

A user gets a full day’s heavy use from a fully charged battery, so everything from listening to music, to reading and browsing as well as gaming is possible.

Conclusion

The Oppo Reno 11 Pro 5G is a definite buy if you are looking for a phone with good performance, battery life and awesome cameras. The Oppo Reno 11 Pro 5G is retailing at Ksh. 85,999 and is available at any authorized Oppo retailer.
