Airtel Kenya announces plans to spin off its mobile money arm

Airtel Kenya has today announced that it has separated and transferred the Airtel Money Business from Airtel Networks Kenya Limited to Airtel Money Kenya Limited.

Following this spin off, Airtel Money Kenya Limited will take over and continue the provision of Airtel Money services in collaboration with Airtel Kenya Limited.

According to the telco, the continued use of the Airtel Money service, shall be deemed as proof of the customer’s acceptance of the transfer of their Airtel Money account and related customer data. This will also include sharing of customer data between Airtel Kenya and the mobile money arm.

This follows plans by Telkom Kenya to change its company structure to create two wholly-owned subsidiaries, that is Telkom Digital and T-Kash.

Safaricom on the other hand does not show signs of spinning off M-Pesa, its mobile money arm despite call from different quarters to do so.
