Safaricom half year net profit rises by 52.1% to Ksh. 42.8 Billion

Safaricom has reported a 52.1% rise in the net profit to Ksh. 42.8 Billion for the half year 2026. This is a rise from the Ksh. 28.12 Billion that was reported in a similar period last year.

The rise in profitability was on the back of a rise in the service revenue which rose by 11% to hit Ksh. 199.87 Billion. With the total revenue rising by 8% to Ksh. 204.7 Billion.

Capital expenditure for the period declined by 25.6% to Ksh. 43.7 Billion due to increased efficiency in the telco. In Ethiopia, losses reduced by 20.1% year-on-year to Ksh. 15.5 billion even as pricing and currency reform challenges persisted.

“This is a strong set of results, and a solid start to our Vision 2030 strategy cycle, maintaining our FY26 guidance. We remain focused on executing our strategy through segment-led execution and integrated solutions,” said Peter Ndegwa, Group CEO, Safaricom.

“It has been 25 years of transforming lives, through innovation and community empowerment, a journey powered by purpose and collaboration. We have transformed the lives of over 22 million Kenyans through the Safaricom and M-PESA Foundations.  We remain anchored in purpose, driving sustainable growth and positive change,” Ndegwa said.

The telco has continued to invest heavily in communities. They recently launched the Citizens of the Future program, an initiative set to benefit 500 schools with infrastructure upgrades. As well as 10,000 scholarships and over 56,000 beneficiaries of digital literacy over the next five years.

They also launched Safaricom Ethiopia Foundation in July this year, investing over ETB 650million in community projects. These are in education, youth and economic empowerment.
