Catch the final round of AFCON qualifiers fixtures on Gotv

When it comes to football, GOtv is your best friend so you can expect more African flair in the next round of fixtures in the qualifying stages for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations which will be taking place in Morocco next year.

Today is bound to be exciting with the final round of fixtures in the qualifiers coming to its conclusion. With a number of nations playing for their pride and dignity while others look to assert their dominance.

Cameroon will go up against Zimbabwe at Stade Ahmadou Ahidjo in Group J with the stakes being high as both nations have already sealed their fate and will be featuring in the next continental showpiece.

The Indomitable Lions are a force to be reckoned with in African football, winning the AFCON a stunning five times (1984, 1988, 2000, 2002, 2017) and to top it all off, the nation is the first and as from 2022 the only African team to defeat Brazil in tournament play.

But even so, Zimbabwe is top right now and will not be a walk in the park to defeat. The Warriors are currently on a high following the confirmation that they will be taking part in the next AFCON.

Khama Billiat retired from the national team but made his comeback recently and he is most certainly getting back to his best. But even with that being said, his coach Michael Nees has outlined the steps that need to be taken to ensure that he stays in the fold.

“When I watched all the games in Zimbabwe, I felt there was a player missing behind the striker who could make a difference,” said Nees.

“They were all good footballers and very powerful, but there was something like a creative heart missing. I know Khama from back then and his football career. I observed how he performed when he was back in Zimbabwe.”

“So, I approached him and the club [Yadah FC] as well. It wasn’t just a matter of calling him and saying we want you back in the squad. Khama and other players have conditions, and those conditions are not about money or anything like that. They have conditions that the things around the team are run fully professionally.”

Now with Billiat almost back in perfect form, it’s up to the team to work around his return and ensure that he’ll be 100% by the time that it’s time for the competition to take place.

Tuesday also brings a potentially mouthwatering clash between Tanzania and Guinea in Group H at the Benjamin Mkapa National Stadium in Dar es Salaam as both sides seek to grab the remaining ticket to the tournament.

The Taifa Stars find themselves in a “must-win” situation, as anything less than that is not enough to get them over the line. In the 2023 edition of the AFCON, head coach Adel Amrouche described the tournament as the most significant event in Africa.

“The players know that this is a big tournament and is the grandest occasion in Africa. It is going to give them significant exposure when they play against the prominent nations of African football,” said the former CR Belouizdad player at the time.

“It is the greatest occasion, and it’s a good dream to play in the AFCON. I am happy for these players, and they deserve to be here.” And with that being said, Tanzania will probably stop at nothing to make sure that they’ll be playing in the competition back-to-back.
