Carrefour has launched a self-checkout service at the Hub store. The service allows customers to shop and complete purchases without the assistance of cashiers at the cash counter, saving time and avoiding inconveniences caused by long queues.
To access the service, customers can click ‘Start’ on the self-checkout counter’s digital screen, scan their items using the barcode reader and complete the purchase by tapping on ‘Finish & Pay’. The self-checkout lane accepts cashless payment options including Mpesa, debit or credit cards, and MyCLUB loyalty points for even greater flexibility.
The service will be utilised by customers shopping less than 15 items. This introduction marks Carrefour’s third store in the country to offer the service following two successful launches at the Westgate Shopping Mall store and the Village Market.
How to use Carrefour self-checkout
- Shop at your local Carrefour store.
- Bring your purchases to the self-checkout machine or place your basket in the designated area.
- Press the Start button on the touchscreen.
- The start button you press will decide which language the machine operates in, so be sure to press the correct one.

- Scan your purchases by lining up the bar-code with the red light of the scanner; electronic beep sounds when the scan is successful. The scanner may be hand held, for products too heavy to lift and line up.
