The Ministry of Education (MOE) recently announced that it has revised the entry criteria for joining Teacher Training Colleges as part of the reforms in the education sector.
Among the changes is that minimum requirement of a mean grade of C plain in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination. The MOE has done away with the subject cluster which was previously required to admit students to the teacher training course.
Previously students were required to have C plain in all the cluster subjects as well as in English, Kiswahili, Mathematics, a humanity and a science subject. This most often than not proved a hard nut to crack for the majority. With these changes, there are 13,439 slots for teacher trainees in the 34 public colleges.
