Tecno the phone manufacturer has announced that they will be launching a mobile wallet. The wallet is a product of a collaboration between TECNO and financial institutions.
The wallet will enable customers complete payments as well as access other financial services on their TECNO devices. It will come already integrated in the new devices. The service was first piloted in Nigeria prior to its launch in other countries..
TECNO customers will be able to use the service to make secure payments, including bill payments, money transfers, data and airtime purchases, and general shopping.
“Tecno Wallet will be available for download on selected existing device series and will come pre-installed on new Tecno smartphones, including the upcoming CAMON 19 series set to be unveiled in June 2022. It aims is to build a digital and financial hub and lifestyle platform that aggregates products, services, and merchants from across the market, allowing TECNO users to transact, access credit, and enjoy exclusive rewards and promotions as soon as they unbox their smartphone,” the company said in a statement.
The wallet will be available for download, but not for all TECNO devices. However, it will come as a standard app in future TECNO devices. The service is expected to be available for users by the end of this month. However, it will initially limited to Kenya and Nigeria. It is expected to be launched in the second half of the year in Ghana, Tanzania, Ivory Coast, and Senegal.
Apparently, one will be able to connect their cards to the wallet, and it will be compatible with all major card schemes and banks in Africa.
